No. 16 Seawolves Stifle Toros in Straight Sets

CARSON -- Visiting Sonoma State left little doubt as to why they're ranked No. 16 in this week's AVCA poll as they swept past Cal State Dominguez Hills to spoil its home opener.

Alijah Gunsaulus led the Toros with 11 kills in the loss.

Looking for their first league win after being swept on the road last weekend, the Toros ran into a well-oiled Seawolf machine that hit .352 in the 25-16, 25-17, 25-11 decision, while holding CSUDH to just .079.

After taking an early 8-5 lead in the opener, the Toros were out-scored 20-8 the rest of the way that included the final eight points in the set.

Things didn't get much better for the Toros in the second after again taking an early lead as SSU ran off two runs of four-consecutive points, and a final five-point push to take set two.

Set three was all Sonoma State as the Seawolves stormed to a 23-9 edge en route to coasting to the sweep.

Gunsaulus added seven digs to pace the defense, with Elizabeth Krieger following with six.

CSUDH will look to earn its first league win tomorrow night as San Francisco State visits Carson for a 7 pm first serve.
