Whitney Lee (#18) hit .500 with 15 kills, but it wasn't enough in tonight's setback at CSUEB
Box Score

HAYWARD -- Senior Whitney Lee put away 15 kills while hitting .500 and was joined by sophomore Alijah Gunsaulus who hammered 13 kills and hit .435, but host Cal State East Bay boasted a team hitting percentage of .348 en route to a 3-1 win over Cal State Dominguez Hills to avenge an earlier season loss to the Toros.

With the loss, the Toros drop to 8-17, 1-16 CCAA.

The Pios jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first set, stretching it to 15-10 en route to a 25-16 win.

The Toros regrouped in the second despite being down early, taking an 18-17 lead on an Azieanna Smith putaway before the two teams tied five more times, the last at 22-22, with the Toros scoring three of the final four points to take a 25-23 set two win, the last coming on a Tarryn Luafalemana hammer.

After the break, CSUEB stormed out in set three, taking a 14-6 lead and stretching it to 24-11 before putting the set away in a 25-13 win.

Set four saw the teams knotted at 10-all, and forge three more ties before the Pioneers went on a 4-0 run to take a 17-13 lead.

Kills by Taryn McCullouch, Gunsaulus and Lee brought the Toros back to within two on three separate occasions down the stretch, but a Katie Allen kill on CSUEB's first match point put any hopes of a Toro comeback to rest in the 3-1 win.

Despite winning the battle of the net, 9.5 to 4.0, CSUDH made seven more errors than the Pios, and were out-aced 10-3 in the loss.

The Toros return home next weekend for their final homestand of the year after a mid-week showdown at cross-town rival Cal State L.A. on Wednesday, with CSUDH honoring its seven seniors on Saturday prior to 7:00 pm's first serve.
