Toros End 2013 Season With 3-1 Loss at No. 12 UC San Diego

Box Score

LA JOLLA -- Cal State Dominguez Hills' Tarryn Luafalemana and Alijah Gunsaulus posted the top two kill totals for the second-consecutive night, but host and No. 12 UC San Diego benefited from 8 more Toro errors in both attacks and serves en route to 3-1 win to end CSUDH's season.

Fourth-year senior Elizabeth Krieger (pictured) finished with a 10 kill, 13 dig double double in the final match of her Toro career as the Toros finish the season at 11-19, 4-18 CCAA.

Unlike last night's stellar results in the first two sets, the Toros were on the wrong end of sets one and two tonight as the hosts hit .410 in the opener and out-hit CSUDH by .093 in set two.

CSUDH, however, made a match of it after holding the Tritons to a -.029 hitting percentage in set three as it rode Krieger's serve to an early 6-1 lead in a wire-to-wire win, with senior Whitney Lee putting down the final point in the 25-19 win.

UCSD, however, would not be denied on its "Senior Day," roaring to an 8-2 lead and running away with the frame en route to a 25-16 win and 3 sets to 1 victory.

Lee finished with 9 kills and 5 block assists in her final game as a Toro as UCSD posted a .208 hitting percentage compared to .158 for the Toros.

CSUDH will return a solid core in 2014, led by seniors Luafalemana and Azieanne Smith and juniors Gunsaulus, Dana Brown and Korryne Kelley, in hopes of continuing the momentum gained over the season's final five contests in which the posted a 3-2 record, but took No. 14 CS San Bernardino to five on the road before giving No. 12 UCSD all it could handle in a 3-1 loss tonight.
