Toros Roll Past Chico State in 3-0 Sweep

CARSON -- Sophomore Alijah Gunsaulus blasted 14 kills to lead a trio of Toros in double-figure putaways as Cal State Dominguez Hills swept past Chico State to win its second-straight.

Playing their most complete match since starting the season 7-1, the Toros started strong and never let up in the 25-18, 25-23, 25-12 win to improve to 10-17, 3-16 CCAA.

The Toros hit .256 while holding the Wildcats to a .174 clip, with Whitney Lee hitting .455, Tarryn Luafalemana .321 and Gunsaulus .256 in the sweep.

Leading from start to finish in the first set, CSUDH scored the first four points on Elizabeth Krieger's strong serve, pushing it to 7-2 on a Gunsaulus kill.

The Wildcats clawed back to tie the match at 9-9, before CSUDH went on a 14-7 run to take control of the set, with a Lee blast nailing down the 25-18 win.

Set two saw the Wildcats take their first lead of the mach at 8-7, with the teams tying five more times down the stretch.

Knotting the set at 23-23 on a Wildcat error, the Toros scored the final two points on Korryne Kelley's serve, with Krieger and Lee putting the finishing touches on the 25-23 win.

After the break, the two teams again kept close to each other, with a 20-20 tie accounting for the ninth tie of the frame. 

Two Lee kills and a CSUC error set the stage for the final Toro push, with Lee and Gunsaulus putting the Wildcats away in the 25-21 win.

Lee and Luafalemana added 12 kills each, with Krieger tallying a match-high 16 digs, and Gunsaulus chipping in 12.

Dana Brown recorded 46 kills in the match while tying for match-high block assists with six.

CSUDH will look to make it three straight tomorrow against CS Stanislaus, after honoring seven players playing their final match in the Torodome on "Senior Night."
