Toros Snap Skid in 82-66 Win Over Humboldt State

Box Score

CARSON -- The dynamic duo of Monay Lee (pictured) and Jamie Robinson combined for 49 points as Cal State Dominguez Hills snapped its two-game skid with a resounding 82-66 win over Humboldt State tonight in the Torodome.

With the win, CSUDH improves to 6-10, 4-8 CCAA, while HSU falls to 8-10, 4-8 CCAA.

It was day and night from yesterday's contest against Cal Poly Pomona as the Toros took an early 17-8 lead over the 'Jacks.  HSU cut into its deficit over the next five minutes, keeping the Toros within striking distance at 20-15.  Behind Jamie Robinson's 13 points and Monay Lee's 12, however, CSUDH kept the 'Jacks the rest of the way, taking a 38-33 lead into intermission.

CSUDH drained 41% of its shots and an efficient 89% from the foul line, draining 8-of-9.

A 9-5 run to begin the second half brought the Toro advantage to 49-38 after a pair of made Lee freebies, with turnovers on consecutive 'Jack possessions resulting in consecutive fast-break buckets to push the lead to 53-38, prompting a Humboldt State time-out.

The Toros used that break to run off 7 more points, before a 'Jack triple looked to halt the momentum.

That plan quickly evaporated as Emilie Boege followed her own miss with an offensive board and put-back, giving CSUDH a 62-41 lead with 10:50 left in regulation.

Humboldt State, however, used a 14-4 run of its own to close the gap to 66-55 at the 5:50 mark only to see the Toros answer wtih a 9-4 run of their own to extend the lead to 75-59 four minutes later, the last three courtesy of a Kira Demorales old-fashioned 3-point play.

Strong free throw shooting down the stretch sealed the deal as the Toros rebounded with a decisive 82-64 win, with Brianna Cheatum scoring the final two baskets for the Toros after crisp passing broke the HSU trap.

The Toros finished shooting 46% from the floor and 82% from the foul line in the win, tying the season-high in scoring with their January 18 game against CS Stanislaus, also a win.

CSUDH will continue its homestand next weekend, hosting UC San Diego on February 1.  The game will be streamed live on the Toro Sports Network by clicking here.
