LOS ANGELES -- The good news was that the Cal State Dominguez Hills volleyball team didn't have to play its third 5-set match in a row to conclude the CSULA/CPP Tournament, but the bad news was that it was swept by CS San Marcos in three close sets.

With the loss, the Toros fall to 2-5 on the year as Elizabeth Krieger (pictured) and Whitney Lee combined to lead the offense with 24 kills in the 25-23, 25-22, 27-25 loss.

After a pair of back-to-back five-set losses to Azusa Pacific and Point Loma Nazarene yesterday, the Toros showed little signs of fatigue after battling the Cougars in set one, taking a 13-9 lead before tough serving brought momentum CSUSM's way en route to a 25-23 verdict, with set point coming on a service ace.

Set two was nip-and-tuck again with 11 ties as late as 19-19, but untimely Toro attack errors, a Cougar kill and service ace provided the margin of victory in the 25-22 win.

The Toros started slow in set three en route to an 11-7 deficit, but battled back to take the lead at 23-20 and hold set point at 24-23 and 25-24, but a Cougar kill and Toro attack error erased those set points with a pair of kills by CSUSM ending the set to take the match, 3-0.

Improving vastly at the net in its previous matches, the Toros were out-blocked today, suffering a 10-to-5 disadvantage, with Lee again doing the most damage with a solo stuff and 3 block assists to lead the team, which hit just .136 for the match compared to .186 for CSUSM.

The Toros now begin CCAA league play with arguably the toughest road trip in the nation, taking on perennial powers UC San Diego and CS San Bernardino next weekend, before their home opener on Friday, September 21, against CS Monterey Bay.
