Toros Roar Back in Epic Five Set Home-Opening Win

CARSON -- After nine matches away from home to begin the 2012 campaign, the new and improve Cal State Dominguez Hills volleyball team gave their fans a memorable home opener in an epic 3-2 win over a game Cal State Monterey Bay squad.  Corissa Santos put away 13 kills on just one error in the 25-17, 21-25, 21-25, 25-19, 15-5 win.

WIth the win, the Toros move to 4-6, 2-1 CCAA, while the Otters fall to 6-5, 0-3 CCAA.

CSUDH started strong in the first set, turning a 10-8 lead into a 25-17 runaway win as the Toros hit at a .342 clip compared to just .154 for CSUMB.

The Otters, however, clawed back with wins in the next two sets before the Toros led from wire-to-wire in set four to knot the match at two each.

In the fifth, the Toros left no doubt after storming to a 7-2 lead behind the strong serving of Korryne Kelley, with five-consecutive points off Rose Greco's serve closing out the match in a 15-5 decision.

Elizabeth Krieger led the Toros with 17 kills, with middle Whitney Lee adding 15 of her own as well as 4 blocks on the night.

Defensively, the Toros boasted five players with at least 10 digs, led by Dana Brown's 18, with Brown also adding 49 sets.

Julia Ashen paced all hitters with 20 kills, while Rachel Kookus saved 22 balls in the loss as the Toros out-hit the Otters .239 to .189 in the marathon.

The Toros look to make it two in a row tomorrow night as Cal State East Bay visits Carson after falling in four to Cal State L.A. earlier tonight.  The match can be seen live on the Toro Sports Network at www.GoToros.com/live, with the pre-game show set to begin at 6:30 pm.
