Cold Spell Continues in 3-1 Loss at Cal State L.A.

Box Score
LOS ANGELES -- Junior Whitney Lee led all attackers with 18 kills, but host Cal State L.A. avenged an earlier sweep at the hands of the Toros with its own 3-1 win tonight to split the season series.

With the 25-22, 25-17, 25-27, 25-21 loss, CSUDH drops its seventh-straight in falling to 9-16, 7-11 CCAA, while CSULA improves to 12-13, 10-8 CCAA.

The sloppy first set saw 13 ties and 6 lead changes before the hosts took charge late in the 25-22 win as the two teams combined for 17 errors and 21 total kills.

Set two was all Cal State L.A. after a 1-1 tie as the Golden Eagles took an early 5-point lead and held off a spirited Toro attack that saw CSUDH claw to within 19-17 before the hosts ran off the final 6 points in the win.

The Toros came out after the break inspired, storming out to a 10-3 lead and holding off a game Golden Eagle squad that forged 14 ties and held two set points, only to see two attack errors erase those chances and Abbey Prusa put away consecutive blasts to give CSUDH the set at 27-25.

CSUDH looked to carry that momentum into set four after taking an early 10-6 lead and holding its edge at 18-16.

But the hosts forged a comeback of their own by out-scoring the Toros 9-3 the rest of the way in the four-set win.

Prusa finished with 10 kills and a .304 hitting percentage, with Dana Brown leading the Toros with 39 assists in the loss.

Korryne Kelly paced the Toro defense with 21 digs while Prusa, Lee and Delea Pursel all chipped in 4 block assists on the night.

CSUDH will look to stop its skid on Friday against Cal Poly Pomona, with first serve set for 7:00 pm in the Torodome.
