Box Score
CARSON -- Cal State Dominguez Hills concluded its 2012 campaign with an emotional and epic 5-setter against Chico State tonight, honoring a pair of seniors in Rose Greco and Delea Pursel in a pre-match ceremony as the duo concluded their college careers before falling 25-21, 22-25, 22-25, 25-21, 17-15.

With the loss, the Toros end 2012 at 12-17 and 10-12 CCAA, good for a 7th place finish.

Here's part 1 of Greco and Pursel talking about their Toro careers:

Part 2:

The opener saw the hosts run out to a quick 5-2 lead before the Wildcats used a 3-0 run to tie the set at 11-11.  The two teams tied eight more times before Chico State ran off three-consecutive points to take the opener, 25-22, the last coming on a block assist by Katie Morley and Shannon Boling.

In the second set, the teams tied six times early before the Wildcats squeaked to a 12-8 lead on Molly Ratto's service.

The Toros, however, caught CSUC at 16-16 on a Whitney Lee kill, the first of five ties down the stretch before Korryne Kelley's serve and Abbey Prusa's arm accounted for the final three points of the set in CSUDH's 25-22 win.

CSUDH kept that momentum after the extended break, taking an 11-6 lead on three kills by Elizabeth Krieger and a number of Wildcat hitting errors, only to have the Wildcats storm back to knot the game at 17-17 on a Lindsay Quigley bomb.

An attack error by CSUC and a Krieger putaway gave CSUDH a 2-point cushion, and the Toros rode that momentum to an eventual 25-22 set three win.

Set four saw the Wildcats take the lead early at 12-7, and extend it to 19-15 before holding off a late Toro charge en route to a 25-21 win to even the match at two sets apiece.

In the deciding stanza
, CSUDH raced to an early 8-5 edge, before the Wildcats rallied with a 4-1 run to tie the game at 9-9.  The two teams split the next four points until kills by Lee and Corissa Santos put the Toros up 13-11.

A Wildcat kill and Toro attack error knotted the set again, prompting a time out by CSUDH.

Santos capitalized with a blast to give the Toros match point, but a Wildcat blast and CSUDH attack error gave CSUC its first match point, which Krieger dismissed with a monster hammer.

An ensuing net violation on the Toros gave Chico its second match point, and a final Toro attack error ended the match in favor of the Wildcats in a 17-15 decision.

Prusa ended with 20 kills to lead four Toros with at least 10, while Alex Shurtz and Lindsay Quigley each pounded 22 kills to lead the Wildcats.

Before the match, the Toros honored their two seniors in Pursel and Greco, presenting them both with jerseys and photos in a framed ensemble.

Next season, the Toros will return all but the two seniors honored tonight in hopes of establishing them program as a perennial power.
