Pioneers Stage Miraculous Comeback in Five-Set Win Over Toros

HAYWARD -- Cal State Dominguez Hills roared to a two sets to none lead, but host Cal State East Bay roared loudest when it counted most, rallying from two sets down to shock the Toros in a five-set marathon win. Juniors Elizabeth Krieger and Abbey Prusa led four Toros in double-figure kills with 16 each in the loss.

With the 25-22, 25-23, 18-25, 19-25, 7-15 loss, CSUDH falls to 9-12, 7-7 CCAA, while CSUEB improves to 9-13, 4-11 CCAA.

Using hitting percentages of .289 and .333 in the first two sets, the Toros raced to a two-set lead only to have the Pioneers hit .364 in the third and .265 in the fourth to force the deciding fifth set.

In that frame, it was all CSUEB as the hosts hit .833 compared to .000 for the Toros in the 15-7 finale.

Whitney Lee added 12 kills and 3 blocks, while Corissa Santos chipped in 17 digs and 10 kills in the loss.

The Toros will look to stop their 3-match skid tomorrow night at CS Monterey Bay.
