Coyotes Too Tough in 3-1 Win Over Toros

CARSON -- Perennial power Cal State San Bernardino took a two-sets-to-none lead, and held off a spirited Toro comeback to take a 3-1 win over Cal State Dominguez Hills to start the second half of league play.  Abbey Prusa led the Toros with 11 kills in the loss.

With the loss 25-17, 25-22, 19-25, 25-18 loss, CSUDH falls to 9-10, 7-5 CCAA, while CSUSB maintains its hold on the league's top spot, sweeping the season series while moving to 13-7, 10-2 CCAA.

CSUSB roared out in set one, turning a 4-all tie into a 17-8 advantage en route to a runaway 25-17 win.

The 'Yotes took that momentum into set two, racing to a 16-5 lead before the Toros clawed nearly all the way back to trail by just one at 20-19.  CSUSB, however, put CSUDH's comeback to rest by outscoring the hosts 5-3 the rest of the way to take a two sets to none lead.

CSUDH fired back after the break, taking its turn to turn a close set into a convincing 19-14 lead late, before pulling away in a 25-19 decision.

The visitors, however, regrouped in set 4, racing to an 8-3 lead and never looking back to take the match, 3-1.

CS San Bernardino hit .209 for the match compared to .171 for the Toros, with Whitney Lee and Elizabeth Krieger adding 10 kills in the loss.

The Coyotes earned an advantage with 11 services aces compared to just six for the hosts, with Danielle Newcombe tallying five herself.

CSUDH looks to regroup tomorrow night as it hosts No. 25 UC San Diego on "Dig 4 A Cure" night, with first serve set for 7 pm.  The match will be streamed live on the Toro Sports Network at www.GoToros.com/live.
