Volleyball Swept in Home Opener by #12 UC San Diego

CARSON -- Facing their first match of a back-to-back series against top 15 teams, the Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros fell in three sets to the 12th ranked UC San Diego Tritons in CSUDH's home opener.  CSUDH could not get through the stellar UCSD defense, hitting only .091 for the evening.  Senior Madison Horsley played her best game of the season, smashing eight kills with a .417 hitting percentage.

The Toros stayed close in set one before a 6-0 Tritons run put the game out of reach in a 25-15 loss, with CSUDH hitting -.036 in the set, led by junior Delea Pursel with three kills.

The second set was much closer as the Toros took a 17-16 lead before a 5-0 Triton run put the set out of reach by a final of 25-21.  Sophomore Elizabeth Krieger headed the charge with four kills and four digs in the set while the team outhit UCSD .219 to .103.

Following the 10-minute break, the 12th ranked Tritons flexed their muscles and ran out to a quick 13-2 lead and never looked back, sweeping the match with a third set 25-10 final.  Horsley again had a solid set, gathering four kills and three digs.

For the match CSUDH was out-aced 8-0 while being outblocked 7-2.

Horsley and Krieger led the team with eight kills while freshman Azieanna Smith and junior Rose Greco tied for the lead in digs with 13.  Senior Olivia White dished out all of the team's 25 assists on the night.

The Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros will finish off the weekend Saturday against perennial power and third-ranked Cal State San Bernardino, with first serve set for 7:00pm in the Torodome.
