Woeful Second Half Leads to 66-43 Loss at Cal Poly Pomona

Box Score
POMONA -- Visiting and underdog Cal State Dominguez Hills made a game of it for 20 minutes at red-hot Cal Poly Pomona, but the hosts limited CSUDH to just 8-of-25 in a woeful second half that led to the Broncos' 66-43 victory to increase their winning streak to 11 games.  Sherrie Hughes led the Toros with 13 points and nine boards.

After tying the game twice in the first five minutes of play, the hosts built their lead to seven by scoring on their next three possessions, before their first double-figure lead at
20-10 on the first of two Reyana Colson freebies.

CSUDH cut the lead to as few as six at 22-16 on a Hughes lay-up with 2:38 left in the half, entering the break withing striking distance at 26-19.

Cutting the lead to five at 28-23 on a triple by #Brittni Hulsizer at the 15:30 mark, CPP scored the next 11 points to take control of the game for good, with its lead reaching as high as 21 at 47-26 on a Sarah Semenero lay-up with 10:13 left in regulation.

That cushion ballooned to as high as 28 points at the 2:18 mark, before a final Toro free throw by Tiffany Smith closed the scoring on the 66-43 loss.

Although both teams shot under 40% for the game, the Broncos tallied six more field goals and 11 more free throws in the decisive win, improving them to 17-2, 14-1 CCAA.

Smith added 10 points and 4 boards for the Toros, while Colson's game-high 18 and La'kenya Simon West's 10 led a balanced Bronco attack that saw two others notch nine points in the win.

The Toros, now 3-17, 3-13 CCAA, return home for the first of four consecutive CCAA games next weekend, beginning with a Friday night contest against CS Monterey Bay, with first tip set for 5:30 pm on the "Dave Yanai Court" in the Torodome.
