Golden Eagles Soar in 71-43 Win Over Toros

Box Score
CARSON -- Visiting Cal State L.A. raced out to a 17-4 lead over the game's first 12 minutes en route to a runaway 71-43 win over Cal State Dominguez Hills on the penultimate day of the 2011 calendar year.  Sherrie Hughes proved one of the few bright spots for the Toros with 12 points and 6 boards.

With the loss, CSUDH wraps up the calender year still in search of its first conference win, falling to 1-12 overall and 0-6 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.

The Toros trailed from the opening tip, scoring just four points through the first eight minutes of play as Hughes and junior guard Siedah Wilson led CSUDH with six points each at the half as CSULA enjoyed a 38-21 edge.

CSUDH fared no better after intermission as the Golden Eagle lead swelled to 22 with just over 16 minutes left in the game, to 27 with 7:36 left in regulation and to its largest margin of 36 on a triple by Amanda Deal with just 3:16 remaining in the blowout.

Hughes added six more points while Porcha Davis notched five to give her eight for the night.

Jazzi Johnson led CSULA with 14 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the field, with Lacey Gibbons enjoying a 10-point performance.

The visitors shot 52.2% from the floor and drained 7 more foul shots than the hosts in sweeping the regular season series.

The Toros will be back in action on Friday, January 6, with Sonoma State making its annual trip to Carson for a 5:30 pm tip.  The game will be broadcast live on the Toro Sports Network at www.GoToros.com/live.
