Season Ends With 3-0 Wildcat Sweep

CHICO -- Senior Madison Horsley enjoyed her best match of the year with 13 kills and a .455 hitting percentage, but host Chico State boasted three players with double-figure kills on its "Senior Day" en route to a 25-15, 27-25, 25-17 sweep over the Toros.

With the loss, CSUDH ends its 2011 season at 1-25, 0-22 CCAA.

Fighting for its NCAA postseason life and inspired by its final match of the year at home, Chico State raced to a 4-0 lead that grew to 17-9 on a Toro attack error en route to a 25-15 set one win.

Having last won a set on October 28 in a 3-2 home loss against Humboldt State, the Toros kept up with the Wildcat attack in the second set, tying 10 times early over the first 22 points earned.  CSUDH took its first lead of the match at 12-11 on an Olivia White kill , and led by as much as 3 points five times after before CSUC caught up at 22 on a Toro attack error.

The two teams traded set points until two Makenzie Snyder kills at 25-all gave the Wildcats a two sets to none lead.

CSUDH looked to shake off the tough set two loss after taking an early 3-1 lead in set three, but the Wildcats fought back to tie the set at 6, 7, 8 and 9, before a Delea Pursel kill led a 3-0 spurt for the Cardinal and Gold, leading to a Wildcat timeout.

That break proved beneficial for the hosts as CSUC went on an 11-2 run to seize control of the set and take a 20-15 lead, before winning 5 of the next 7 points to take the set and the match.

Sophomore Elizabeth Krieger added 11 kills and 9 digs in the loss, while Cassidy Magnum posted 12 digs in her final match of her Toro career.

This also was the final match for Horsley and White, as the Toros are set to return 10 letter-winners along with a talented recruiting class to supplement the 2012 roster.
