No. 22 Sonoma State Puts Damper on Senior Day in 3-0 Sweep

CARSON -- Honoring three seniors Madison Horsley, Cassidy Mangum and Olivia White in a pre-game ceremony for the final home match of the 2011 season, the Cal State Dominguez Hills volleyball team put forth a valiant effort before falling 3-0 to visiting and 22nd-ranked Sonoma State.

Coming off a four-set loss at Cal State L.A. last night, the Seawolves appeared to have that match on their minds after taking a slim 9-8 lead early in set one.  That all changed, however, as SSU scored 17 of the next 23 points to take the opener 25-14.

Set two was more of the same as the visitors took an early 10-5 edge, increasing it to 20-9 before putting away a 25-13 decision.

Facing a sweep in their final home match of the year, the Toros battled and took a 6-1 lead in the third set before the Seawolves caught them at 10, 11, 12, 21 and 22, before taking the final three points of the set to take the 3-0 sweep.

Keala Peterson led all players with 14 kills en route to a .412 hitting percentage, with two other SSU players tallying 11 kills in the win.

As a team, SSU hit a whopping .404 compared to .165 for the hosts, enjoying 22 more kills than the Toros and three fewer hitting errors.

Elizabeth Krieger paced CSUDH with 13 kills and a .233 hitting percentage, while Mangum led the team with 15 digs.

CSUDH, now 1-21, 0-18 CCAA, will conclude its regular season on the road for four matches, beginning at Cal Poly Pomona on Friday, November 4.
