SAN FRANCISCO -- The final was 56-46 in favor of CS Dominguez Hills, but it was much, much more for the Toros as CSUDH picked up its first win of the season and hopefully some much needed momentum to begin the calendar year.  Eight different Toros scored at least four points with freshman Hillarie Perrin-Grant leading the way with 15.

After allowing the first two points and trailing 4-3, the Toros would play some of their best basketball of the season by going on a 17-5 run to take a season-high 11 point lead at 20-9.  Over the next 11 minutes of the half CSUDH would manage the lead, going into the locker room ahead 33-26. Grant's nine points led the Toros while the bench was key, scoring 16 of the team's 33 points.

With their first halftime lead of the season, CSUDH needed to show that they could hold on to the lead starting the second half.  SFSU mounted several charges, including making it a two-point game at 45-43 with only 8:46 left in regulation.  But tonight's Toros and their defense were up to the challenge, holding the Gators to 0-of-7 from the field, 0-of-3 from the line and causing eight turnovers over the next eight minutes.

For the game the Toros shot 39.2% from the field and out-rebounded the Gators 44-35. SF State was held to just 32.8% from the field including 21.1% from behind the arc.

Junior Tiffany Smith added nine points, four rebounds and an incredible seven steals off the bench. Forward Sherrie Hughes led the team with eight rebounds to go along with her five points and two blocks.

CSU Dominguez Hills, now 1-10, 1-6 CCAA, will continue its CCAA road trip by playing the only undefeated team left in the conference tomorrow, the Cal State Monterey Bay Otters at 5:30pm.
