Toros Take Down Broncos 3-1 to Notch First Win of Season

CARSON -- Two Toros landed double-digit kills but the true standout on the night was Cal State Dominguez Hills setter Cassidy Mangum, whose offensive versatility landed her 35 assists, two blocks and six kills and digs apiece to lead the Toros to a 3-1 take down of the visiting Cal Poly Pomona Broncos.

Not only landing six kills, a new personal career high, Mangum finished at a .417 attack percentile, leading all Toros on the night.

With a team total of 48 kills, the Toros were led by Denise DeVine with 15 and Elizabeth Krieger with 13.  DeVine also tallied her fourth double-double of the season in twice as many matches with 11 digs as well.

Having no offensive say in set one and falling by a margin of 9-25, the Toros rallied back in the second to take away their first set win at 27-25.

Hitting a -.042 mark in the first game, accuracy played a key role the rest of the night as the Toros significantly improved their hitting after the second to finish with an overall mark of .218, driving themselves to a match win on the Broncos 28 total errors.

Key for the momentum in the win was a wrong CPP server in the third set that revived a lagging Toro offense and allowed them to grab their second set win and close the third with their best hitting of the night at .375.

The visitors featured three in the ten-plus kill margin as Jessica Doerner (15), Kristin McNeese (12) and Taylor Kreutziger (10) all contributed to their team's 56 total kills.

Leading floor protector came way of Celeste Tuioti-Mariner with 14 digs while Abbey Prusa once again led at the net with three blocks.

The Toros (1-7, 1-2 CCAA) will return to the hardwood tomorrow at 7:00pm as they host No. 2 Cal State San Bernardino.  The game can be followed online with live internet television on the Toro Sports Network here.
