Toros Downed by Visiting Wildcats in 3-0 Loss

CARSON -- A strong defense at the net came through when needed, but the visiting Wildcats of Chico State rallied to hand the Cal State Dominguez Hills volleyball team their second CCAA loss after a 3-0 sweep.  The lone Toro in double-figure kills, Elaine Hicks landed 13 on the night adding three digs and a block.

The biggest positive of the night came from high as the Toros out-blocked their opponent at the net for the first time this year, registering 5.0 as a team against the Wildcats' 3.0.

Three Toros in Denise DeVine, Abbey Prusa and Ashley Clark grabbed multiple blocks apiece with six different Toros adding to the effort.

Knotting a tie four times in the first set, the Toros would see their closest chance at a set win slip away in a 25-19 loss.

After the hosts grabbed their last point at 19 in the first, the 'Cats would go on a five-point run to capture the match's first set.

Never grabbing the lead in a 25-16 second set loss, the Toros once again held late-game hopes in the final set of the match as a block assist from Clark and Prusa gave them their final point at 18 before CSUC went on their final five point run to grab the win at 25-18 and close out the night.

Also on the offensive for the Toros, Clark chipped in five kills while DeVine led the defense with six digs.

Relegating setting duties on the night, Olivia White dished 15 assists with five digs.

The Toros (0-7, 0-2 CCAA) will continue their homestand next week as they host the Cal Poly Pomona Broncos on Friday, September 17 at 7:00pm.
