Toros Drop Wire-to-Wire 68-76 Loss vs. Cal Poly Pomona Broncos

CARSON -- The Cal State Dominguez Hills women's basketball team picked an inopportune time to drop a contest as they fell in a 68-76 loss to the Cal Poly Pomona Broncos in their third to last game of the regular season.  With 19 points and seven boards, Brandie McCann led all Toros in a not close enough offensive threat.

It was all about the Toros in the first half with CSUDH going in a 9-0 unanswered run with 7:05 left to grab their first healthy lead of the game at 29-23.

McCann used a trey at the 4:35 mark to ignite a five-offensive swell for the Toros that saw them score 14 to CPP's seven, sending them into the break with a more than enough 46-32 lead.

A Neka Mixon jump to open the second half was the start of the end as the Broncos went on a rush of their own with 10 straight to chop down the Toro lead to 48-42 at the 15:27 mark.

CSUDH battled back, an Kayla Huckabee jumper at 13:43 was the last 10-point lead for CSUDH at 53-42.  From them on the Broncos rushed their hosts with an 11-0 streak to tie up the ballgame at the 10:38 mark.

A final McCann trey gave CSUDH their last lead on the night before the Broncos used five straight freebies to run up to their final lead at 76-68, grabbing the win.

Defensively the Toros truly stood out throwing up seven total blocks, a tie for the all-time single-game mark.  Leading the charge was Barbara Houston with a total of three, no. 4 on the single-game top-five list.

Houston was also the answer from the glass, grabbing nine of her teams 29 boards, a game-decider against CPP's 35 boards led by Reyana Colson with 10.

Aside from McCann's 19, nine of which came in from beyond the arc, the Toros were led by Whitney Gantt with 13 and Houston with 12.

Colson also led her team from the floor, grabbing 24 points.

The loss drops the squad to a 10-15 overall mark and 9-11 in the CCAA.  The Toros will close out the 2009-10 season with a two game homestead as they first host the Warriors of Cal State Stanislaus on Thursday, February 25th at 5:30pm.
