Toros Force No. 25 Pioneers to Four, Before 3-1 Loss on Senior Day

Senior Ashley Clark, Head Coach Scott Davenport and Senior Cambrea Horn

CARSON-- With the added energy and emotion from Senior Day, the Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros gave No. 25 Cal State East Bay everything it could handle before falling in four sets (25-17, 25-18, 25-27, 25-21). Senior Ashley Clark showed off her skill set by ending the night in the top three in three team categories.

After the decision Clark led in hitting (.278), tied for lead in blocks (2) and tied for third in kills (7).

The first set saw the Pioneers pull away after an early battle to a 25-17 victory, with freshman Denise Devine leading the team with three kills in the set.

In the second the Toros played tightly with CSUEB, even leading 16-14,until the Pioneers scored nine-straight and eventually took the set 25-18. Freshman Elizabeth Krieger had four kills and hit .571 to pace CSUDH.

Not wanting to disappoint the senior day crowd, the third set was filled with action including 12 ties and six lead changes. The set was forced to extra points after each team had a chance to close out the set until the Toros scored three straight to take the 27-25 decision.  Junior Elayne Greer showed up huge with five kills on only six swings.

The fourth and final set was just as tight as the third but CSUDH seemed to run out of momentum near the end with the Pioneers capturing the set and match 25-21. Krieger had nine kills in the set to go along with three digs.

Krieger led the team with a career high 18 kills, Hilary Hougardy led with 17 digs to go along with birthday girl Cassidy Mangum's team high 32 assists.

Now 3-22 overall and 2-17 in the CCAA, the Toros will close out their 2010 campaign with a three-game stretch on the road next week, beginning with action against Humboldt State on Thursday, November 11th at 7:00pm.
