Toros Grounded as Golden Eagles Soar to a 3-0 Win

CARSON-- Despite improving their play in each set, the Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros were no match for Cal State L.A.'s volleyball machine, losing in three sets (25-18, 25-20, 25-16).  Freshman Elizabeth Krieger hit a season high .333 while being tied for the team lead in kills with 12, and second in digs with seven.

In each of the three sets the Toros were able to take a lead at the six-point mark, but each time they seemed to hit a brick wall allowing the Golden Eagles to respond and grab the momentum. The first set saw Krieger slam four kills on only 11 attempts while gathering five digs.

The second set was the closest of the three with seven ties and three lead changes along the way before CSULA scored six-straight with the score in their favor at 18-17. Junior Cassidy Mangum sparked the team with her 11 assists and two digs in the set.

Without the momentum on their side, CSUDH struggled in the third despite a solid effort to stop the unstoppable force that was the CSULA offense. Freshman Elaine Hicks produced five kills on 10 swings in the set to lead the team.

Overall the Toros were lead by 12 kills by Krieger and Hicks, 20 assists by Mangum and 12 digs by Celeste Tuioti-Mariner. Both Elayne Greer and Abbey Prusa kept their block streaks alive at respective eight and nine games.

Cal State Dominguez Hills returns to the Torodome for their final homestand of the season, beginning with UC San Diego on Friday, November 5, at 7:00pm.  That game will also be a part of the "Helping Hands" can food drive so come out and support those in need (more information to follow).
