Volleyball Season Ends With 3-0 Loss at Sonoma State

ROHNERT PARK -- The Cal State Dominguez Hills volleyball season came to an end tonight as the Toros were swept by host Sonoma State in 25-22, 25-17, 25-22 sets, dropping CSUDH to 4-25, 2-20 CCAA.  Elaine Hicks paced the Toros with 13 kills and a team-best .269 hitting percentage.

With the four wins, the Toros doubled their win total from a season ago, and look to finally break through in a tough CCAA Conference next year with a majority of their impact players set to return for 2011, with a season under their collective belts.

The two teams played even in set one, tying six times in the early going until SSU went on a 9-4 run to break a 10-all deadlock, suppressing one final Toro rally en route to a 25-22 set one win.

It was all SSU in set two after the hosts looked to put their seniors up two sets on Senior Night, turning a slim 12-9 edge into a 23-14 cushion before taking a 25-17 victory.

Set three looked to mirror the previous one until CSUDH erased a 13-7 deficit to tie the set at 18-18, only to have the hosts score 7 of the next 11 points to run away with the 25-22 win, and the 3-0 sweep.

As a team, SSU hit .257 compared to just .155 for the visitors, with 12 service aces accounting for 7 more free points than the Toros, who evened out their stellar service with the same number of service errors.

A productive point for CSUDH again came at the net as the Toros tallied a 6.0 to 4.0 block edge, including 10 block assists compared to just 2 for SSU.

This match also marked the final contest for two seniors in Cambrea Horn and Ashley Clark, the latter devoting five seasons to the program after redshirting in her freshman campaign, as well as serving her third term as the CSUDH Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) President.
