Toros Grab First Series Sweep in 3-0 Takedown of Dominican University

SAN RAFAEL -- Posting the only double-double on the team, and a rare one at that, Olivia White dished 17 assists and grabbed 15 digs as the Cal State Dominguez Hills volleyball team easily washed away the Penguins of Dominican University in a quick three sets in NCAA D-II non-conference action.

The 25-15, 25-18 and 25-10 match sweep comes on a fitting one year mark since the Toros last grabbed a 3-0 win on November 12, 2009 against Cal State Stanislaus.

The hosts grabbed only one lead the entire night, grabbing the first point in the second set while tying the game four times.

Quickly pulling away in the first on a four point set ignited by Elaine Hicks, CSUDH grabbed the easy 25-15 win prior to the 25-18 decision in the second.

After breaking apart the Penguin offense, the Toros put up a final six-point push in the last set before the 25-10 win, their biggest of the season.

Two Toros hit the floor in double-digits, Hicks landed 15 kills to lead her team while Abbey Prusa knotted 11.

Hannah Stocking led the hosts with nine kills, while her teams 20 errors to the Toros' seven proved the decision maker.

Pacing the defensive effort, and leading her teams 84 digs, Shelbi Vopnford grabbed 19 on the floor, the most on the season for the Toros in a three-game effort and the most for her in her career.

Improving their record to 4-24 overall, the Toros will close out the 2010 campaign in CCAA action - where they stand at 2-19 - against Sonoma State tomorrow at 7:00pm.
