Hicks Brings Offensive Heat in 3-0 Loss to Seawolves

CARSON -- Looked to to fill an offensive void, Elaine Hicks was on fire today with 18 kills, an ace and two blocks before the Seawolves of Sonoma State bested the Cal State Dominguez Hills volleyball team in three straight to begin the Toros' home weekend.

The Toros played on par with the previously nationally-ranked 'Wolves, landing 41 kills to 44, while coming up only slightly short on the floor as well with 35 to 39 digs.

The first set was the only one that did not feature a lead change, as the Toros grabbed the lead a total of three times in the remaining two, their biggest at 9-6 in the second.

No set went into extra play as SSU grabbed the wins at 25-20, 25-23 and 25-21.

The Toros poised themselves twice to win the final two sets, with a late kill from Elizabeth Krieger bringing the score to 23-24 in the second set, while in the final a late Hicks kill knotted the game at 20-apiece.

Hicks' 18 kills was a career game high while both Abbey Prusa and Krieger provided the rest of the offensive support with five kills apiece.

Hilary Hougardy led form the floor with eight digs and Olivia White dished 34 assists as the Toros' primary setter.

Only one Seawolf landed kills in double-digits in Allyson Sather's 13.

Now 1-14 overall and 1-9 in the CCAA, the Toros will host Humboldt State tomorrow at 8:00pm as both teams look to raise breast cancer awareness for the Susan G. Komen Foundation.  The game will feature live video available here.
