Toros Dealt 69-74 Loss as Lumberjacks Buzz Through Torodome

CARSON, Calif. -- Despite a spirited rally in the second, the Cal State Dominguez Hills women's basketball team fell to the visiting Lumberjacks of Humboldt State in a nail-biting 74-69 loss on the Dave Yanai Court of the Torodome.  Grabbing a team-high 22 points, Neka Mixon led her team, also chipping in eight boards.

Down by only seven going into the break at 34-41, the Toros used an explosive second half to cut their deficit down to as little as one with a little over one minute left in play off a Brandie McCann trey.

A 'Jack jumper with :18 left off the hands of Brittney Taylor and an ensuing Toro foul gave HSU the lead at 73-69 after Taylor sank her freebie.

The Toros would not get another shot off as an untimely turnover and another Toro foul gave HSU the final say and the win at 74-69.

Prior to the night's end, CSUDH held its biggest lead in the first at 12-9 off a Leniece Arevalo three at the 16:15 mark.

Mixon was a true force on the night, tallying 22 points, eight boards, and two blocks and steals apiece.

Only one other player bested Mixon, HSU's Taylor led on the night with 23 points and seven boards, with Paige Peterson at a close 20 points.

Two other Toros, McCann and Whitney Gantt came in with double-digit scoring at a respective 15 and 12.

In the end, the 'Jacks stole the game with Taylor and Bree Halsey grabbing a respective four and three, giving to the teams total of nine.

The loss drops the Toros to a 6-12 overall clip (5-8 CCAA).  CSUDH will see action again tomorrow as they host the Seawolves of Sonoma State at 5:30pm.
