Strong Start Not Enough as Toros Succumb to No. 4 Tritons Defense

LA JOLLA -- Despite a strong start in game one, the Cal State Dominguez Hills women's volleyball team lost their flow, falling prey to the defense of No. 4 UC San Diego in a 3-0 loss. Hilary Hougardy led the Toros in their defense on the night with 9 digs.

In game one, the Toros tallied one short as many attempts as the Tritons and committed half as many attack errors, however, the effort was not enough as UCSD's 21 digs stopped CSUDH in their tracks grabbing a 25-22 win.

The attacking of Samantha Maxwell and Ashley Clark who landed a respective five and seven kills, was not enough in games two and three as the Toros fell 25-16 and 25-10.

A final rush in game three, led by last-minute kills from Clark and Madison Horsley was not enough before the Toros saw the night come to an end at 3-0 for the match.

Overall the Toros were led from the floor by libero Hougardy, who grabbed nine digs for CSUDH. Maxwell and Cambrea Horn rounded out the Toro defense with two blocks apiece.

The loss drops CSUDH to a 1-3 CCAA record and 1-10 overall. The Toros will next see action on September 22 as they play host to Cal State L.A. First serve is set at 7:00pm.
