No. 15 Sonoma State Too Much For Toros in 3-0 CCAA Opener Loss

ROHNERT PARK, Calif. -- Despite a spirited rally in game three, the Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros fell 3-0 to the No. 15 Seawolves of Sonoma State as CCAA play opened today. Heather Rushton was perfect from the middle with no errors, leading the team with five kills in her seven attempts as the Toros fell 25-9, 25-10 and 25-16.

CSUDH scored two quick points in game one before the Seawolves started the pressure, quickly amassing a 14-3 lead and forcing the Toros to play catch-up in the game one 25-9 loss.

Game two saw CSUDH fall once again but not before CSUDH would rally three times, capped by Rushton who closed the gap to 17-7 with back-to-back kills before CSUDH took the loss at 25-10.

It was game three that the Toros got their own pressure going with two quick kills, both from Rebecca Raymond, who saw her first action in the Cardinal & Gold tonight.

A three-point late-game rally led by Madison Horsley and Rushton would be CSUDH's last stand before Sonoma State took the game 25-16 and the match 3-0.

With zero errors, Rushton led the Toros with five kills while Horsley played a close second with four. Leading from behind the net was Ashley Davison with two blocks. On the other side of the court Keala Peterson and Allyson Sather led Sonoma with 14 and 11 kills, respectively.

The loss drops CSUDH to a 0-8 record overall and 0-1 in the CCAA. CSUDH will next see action as they face off against Humboldt State in Arcata this Saturday. First serve is at 4:00pm.
