Toros Dominate Cal State L.A. in 72-35 Victory

Carson, CA -- The Cal State Dominguez Hills women's basketball team secured its biggest win of the season tonight, with a dominating 72-35 victory over Cal State L.A. With three Toros scoring in double-digits, Neka Mixon led all with 21 and seven rebounds.

Starting the action off early in the first, Mixon took two shots to the hole to give the Toros a four-point lead. CSULA's Shyneese Walter and Amber Whittington responded to turn the action around and give the Golden Eagles the only lead they would see all night at 5-4.

Two straight Toros treys followed by an Aujanee Baldwin layup brought the game back to CSUDH and put them up by seven to keep the momentum going the rest of the night.

Baldwin again propelled CSUDH to break the double-digit lead mark with a free throw, followed by a jumper with seven minutes to go in the half. Going into the break it was Mixon who drove them higher as a layup and free throw followed by a final layup gave CSUDH a 22-point lead at 39-17 going into the break.

Mixon continued to click offensively as the Toros' lead reached 30 at 53-23 midway through the second half.  CSULA did its best to whittle the deficit down as a Joy Mason three brought them within 26 with seven left in regulation.

A final Toro push from Sherrie Hughes propelled CSUDH to a 72-35 win, their biggest of the season.

Leading all scorers was Mixon with 21 points and seven boards following 9-of-14 shooting. MacKenzie Mathias was close behind with 12 points, while Baldwin chipped in 10 additional.

Now with a 13-7 record (8-5 CCAA), CSUDH will host the CCAA leaders in UC San Diego tomorrow in the Torodome, with tip-off set at 5:30pm.
