Toros Take Hard-Fought 52-44 Win at San Francisco State

San Francisco, CA -- Though fighting a deficit all through the first half, the Cal State Dominguez Hills women's basketball team rallied in a powerhouse second to grab its second-consecutive road victory, this time 52-44 over the Gators to improve their record to 15-8 (10-6 CCAA). Though not breaking double-digits, Barbara Houston had a standout night with eight boards and seven points.

Not finding ground to stand on in the Bay, the Toros quickly saw themselves at a seven-point deficit of 9-2 only six minutes into the first half. Both Aujanee Baldwin and Ennisha Kyles saw to it to decrease the deficit with timely shots bringing the score to 9-7, still in favor of the Gators.

Playing constant catch-up, CSUDH closed the gap going into the break with a score of 25-21, the last time they would play from behind.

Three-straight Neka Mixon buckets saw to it that the Toros would grab their second lead of the game as they bounced back to take the lead at 27-25 four minutes into the second.

Constantly feeling the SFSU pressure throughout, CSUDH was able to break double-digits in its lead at 45-35 off an Ashley Johnson tip-in after she collected a loose ball off the glass.

In the final minutes the Toros ended their scoring on seven free throws to grab the win at 52-44 and secure their place in the top half of the conference.

Ultimately it was the Gators' 25.0% shooting in the second, paling in comparison to the Toros at 37.0%, that edged out the decision for CSUDH. Though three more boards that the Toros acquired as well, CSUDH held the edge in offensive rebounds in the key win.

Leading on the night was Mixon with 13 points and eight boards. Houston came out for a great night with eight boards and seven points, while Baldwin, aside from her six points, grabbed five steals to lead on the night.

Now with an overall record of 15-8 (10-6 CCAA) the Toros look to move up in the CCAA standings as the regular season draws to a close with only four games left. They will next see action in Carson as they host Cal State Stanislaus on February 20th with tip-off set at 5:30 pm.
