Toros Send Senior Out On High Note in 3-1 Loss to Chico State


CARSON -- Grabbing a 25-23 win in set three before falling in a 3-1 loss to No. 25 Chico State, the Cal State Dominguez Hills volleyball team sent out senior Ashley Davison on a positive note.  Leading on the night was Samantha Maxwell with 18 kills and 13 digs, her fifth double-double of the season.

All but two Toros posted kills on the night, lending to the Toros' total of 48, tallying a .164 attack percentage.

Chico State answered with 61 kills, led by visiting senior Gillian Heydorff with 20 kills.

The Toros were explosive in defense with 89 total digs.  Hilary Hougardy grabbed 35 on the night while Cassidy Mangum tallied a double-double with 22 digs and 36 sets.

The Wildcats came out strong in set one, quickly grabbing a 25-17 win. CSUDH answered back in two, pressuring CSUC before falling 25-19.

Up 4-2 in the third a Davison kill started a seven-point rally highlighted by two Mangum aces, the first on the night. A Heather Rushton kill capped the set to give the Toros a 25-23 win.

Facing a 20-11 deficit in the fourth, Clark and Rushton grabbed the Toros a six-point push to close the cap to 20-17. From there the Wildcats stormed off, closing the night on a 25-19 note.

The loss closes out the 2009 season for the Toros on a 2-27 overall mark and ends CCAA with a 2-20 clip.
