Toros Can't Keep Up With Broncos in 3-0 Loss

POMONA, Calif. -- A positive attack percentage could not help the Cal State Dominguez Hills women's volleyball team as the host Broncos grabbed a quick three games in the start of the Toros' traveling weekend. Versatile libero Hilary Hougardy led CSUDH's stand with three aces and 10 digs.

The Toros struggled to break double-digit scoring in game one before settling at a 25-12 loss to start the night.

A rally after the break saw improvement off the bench as CSUDH posted a .194 attack percentage, their best on the night, led by three kills from Ashley Clark. Two straight aces from Hougardy landed as CSUDH's last stand before a much improved 25-16 loss.

The Toros got hot in game three as a Samantha Maxwell kill brought them to 11-11. However, Lindsey Poulos, who tallied nine kills for the Broncos, proved to be too much for CSUDH's defense, handing them a tough 25-18 loss.

CSUDH grabbed a few good notes on the night with Chelsea Thayer landing her first kill of the season while Hougardy's three aces is second on the 2009 match-high list.

Leading the CSUDH offense was Maxwell with nine kills while Diana Lake rallied Pomona with 10.

Now with a 1-14 record (1-7 CCAA), the Toros will continue the road series as the face off against the Coyotes of Cal State San Bernardino tomorrow. First serve is set for 7:00pm.
