Fast Start Not Enough as Toros Fall in 3-0 Loss to No. 17 Sonoma State

CARSON -- Wearing pink in support of 'Breast Cancer Awareness' day, the Cal State Dominguez Hills women's volleyball team played one of their best offensive games of the season before falling to the No 17. Seawolves of Sonoma State in a 3-0 loss. The Toros posted a .175 attack percentage as a team, their best in eight games.

Playing their best set in the first, four Toros posted three kills apiece with Ashley Clark taking the charge that saw the Toros down by no more than four throughout the set.

With Sonoma up at 24-22, a Cambrea Horn kills gave CSUDH a glimmer of hope before the Seawolve's Keala Peterson smashed a final kill to give the Toros a 25-23 loss.

Set two ended all too quick as SSU's Allyson Sather landed five of her teams 15 kills while the Toros could only manage six as a team in a 25-12 loss.

Improving slightly in set three, the Toros posted eight kills with the final say on the day coming from Ashley Davison before a 25-15 loss.

Committing a scant 10 errors in 103 attempts, the Toros were just as effective offensively against the Seawolves who posted 10 errors in 120 attempts. However, Sonoma's 52 kills against CSUDH's 28 proved to be the deciding factor.

Clark led the Toros with nine kills and 13 digs while Cassidy Mangum posted the only double-double on the night with 24 assists and 14 digs.

Now with a 1-20 overall record (1-13 CCAA), the Toros will next see action on Thursday, October 22 as they host UC San Diego. First serve is set at 7:00pm.
