Toros Momentum Squelched in Loss to Chico State

Rebekah Wolfgramm, who posted 15 sets, confers with Head Coach Scott Davenport

Carson, CA --- Though showing improvement as they battled in three hard-fought sets, the Cal State Dominguez Hills volleyball team was unable to break the stride of the Chico State Wildcats as they fell 26-24, 25-17 and 25-19. Nearly posting a win in set one, they were unable to deliver for their first CCAA win.

Holding a significant lead in the first set it appeared the Toros would take a set, something they haven't done in six matches. CSUDH never let the Wildcats take the lead as they played to 19-18, however a bad set gave Chico a tie at 19 all. Subsequent kills by Toros Ashley Clark and errors on the part of the Wildcats kept them in the game. A final error on the part of the Toros decided the set at 26-24.

Sets two forced the Toros to play catch-up throughout as they struggled to take a lead. A service error by Chico's Kelly Smiland gave the Toros their closest break in set two at 8-8. Crystal Trifelleti and Megan Cape, with their decisive kills, led the Wildcats to victory in set two with a score of 25-17.

The fine serving of Madison Horsley put CSUDH on the board early in set three as they grabbed a quick lead at 3-0. CSUC's Makenzie Snyder - who led the Wildcats with 12 kills - quickly turned the tide with three consecutive kills as Chico regained a lead that would last the rest of the match. A kill from Heather Rushton and errors on Chico's part gave the Toros a brief four-point push, but it was not enough as the Wildcats went on to take the set at 25-19.

The Toros were led by Horsley who posted 7 kills. She also led in defense with 10 digs. Rebekah Wolfgramm once again led with 15 sets, while Cassidy Mangum assisted with 9.

Now 1-12 overall and 0-5 in conference play the Toros will host the Warriors of Cal State Stanislaus (3-12, 0-5 CCAA) tomorrow. First serve is at 5 pm.
