Toros Can’t Find the Consistent Offense as Visiting Gators Spoil Senior Night, 68-54

Carson, CA – On a night when the Toros honored a trio of four-year seniors who have given everything they have to the Cardinal and Gold, CSUDH could not find enough consistent offense to take down the visiting San Francisco State Gators, falling 68-54 on “Senior Night” in the Torodome.  With the loss CSUDH falls to 12-13, 6-12 CCAA and puts its CCAA tournament hopes in jeopardy.

The Toros looked ready to send their seniors out in style as Michelle Kribell found Alana Bailey cutting to the basket for a easy layup just 10 seconds into the contest for the game's first points, but both teams struggled to find their offense.

CSUDH held the lead until a jumper by Armina Jusufagic at the 12:30 mark tied the game at 8-8, and the Gators took the lead as few possessions later on a basket by Antwinette Turner.

Jessica Liang put the Toros back out in front with a trey from the corner with 9:01 left in the half, but the Gators knotted the game and again took the lead on their next possession, hitting a pair from the charity stripe.  SFSU used that momentum to increase their advantage to eight as the buzzer sounded.

The Gators started the second half hungry to extend their lead, and a pair of free throws five seconds in by Jusufagic pushed the lead to 10 and SFSU never looked back with its lead reaching a high of 22 with under five minutes in the game, before settling for the 14-point win.

Ennisha Kyles led the offense with 12 points and eight rebounds while Bailey chipped in 11 points and six boards.  Whitney Gantt contributed a strong performance off the bench in the second half, scoring 10 points with three assists and a steal in only nine minutes of action.

Tonight's contest was the final home game for a trio of senior four-year players.  Alana Bailey, Michelle Kribell, and Jessica Liang all have left their names etched in the Toro record books and were honoreed in a pregame ceremony.

CSUDH hits the road to conclude its 2007-08 season, heading up north to take on Cal State Stanislaus and Chico State with a berth the CCAA tournament at stake.
