Volleyball Falls in 3-0 Loss at Cal State Monterey Bay

TaMesha Jefferson gave 5 kills on the night to co-lead the Toros

Seaside, CA --- The Toros fell in a quick 3-0 match at host Cal State Monterey Bay to give the Otters their first CCAA Conference win. Keeping each set close until the end was not enough as CSUDH has not yet clinched their own conference win. Leading in offense on the night was TaMesha Jefferson and Ashley Clark, both of whom posted five kills apiece.

In set one the Toros kept the pace as a Heather Rushton kills and Monterey attack error brought them as far as 14-14. However with the score at 16-15 in the Otters favor, five consecutive CSUMB points clinched the set. A final block by both Kayla Huckabee and Ashley Davison gave the Toros their final point to end the set at 25-16.

Keeping the game close even more in set two the Toros were able to put pressure on CSUMB with a four-point streak courtesy of Clark, Huckabee and Rushton. Again with the game tied at 16-16 a kills from CSUMB's Rheann Fall changed the tide as CSUDH would lose the set 25-19.

Only holding a lead once in set three at 2-1 the Toros fell behind quickly and were forced to play catch-up. Mid-game points from Jefferson and Marissa Anderson brought them within tying distance, however they would lose the set at 25-15 to end the match.

The Toros were led in kills by Jefferson and Clark, both posting five. Melissa Velasco again led in digs with 11 while Rebekah Wolfgramm posted 10 set assists.

Coming home this next weekend, the Toros - now 1-15 (0-8 CCAA) - will host Cal State San Bernardino and Cal Poly Pomona on October 10th and 11th, respectively. Both matches start at 7:00p.
