Toros Volleyball Drops Quick 3-0 Loss to Visiting Sonoma State

Both Marissa Anderson (L) and Ashley Davison gave a stellar performance in tonights match

Carson, CA --- The Cal State Dominguez Hills volleyball team struggled through a quick three sets in their search for a CCAA win as they fell in three to the visiting Seawolves of Sonoma 25-13, 25-8 & 25-22. Both Heather Rushton and Ashley Davison made an impact on the night as Rushton led with 8 kills and Davison picked up 3 blocks.

In set one the Seawolves proved too much for the Toros as they quickly gained a fierce lead at 18-10 - due in part to Kristy Sather who gained 10 kills on the night - and drove for a win. The Toros made a final attempt to recover with a kill from Rushton, whom also forced a Seawolve attack error, but SSU had already decided the set which ended at 25-13.

Unable to recover from the quick loss the Toros saw their lowest deficit at 5-7. The Seawolves recorded 12-consecutive points to quickly bring the game in their favor to 19-5 due in part to the setting of Lyndsay Brown, who recorded 32 assists on the night. The Toros once again tried a late-game comeback as both Kayla Huckabee and Ashley Clark recorded kills to bring CSUDH as high as 8 points. But that was all the Toros had to offer as the Seawolves finished set two, 25-8.

After a much-needed break, CSUDH came out in full force in set three and gained a lead that would shock the Seawolves. Recording a 5-point streak off back-to-back kills from Marissa Anderson the Toros pushed ahead to their biggest lead of the night at 12-8. SSU responded to tie the game at 13-13 off a block from Sather and Sarah Illingsworth.

Refusing to give up their lead the Toros were ahead 22-20 as Anderson recorded her final kill of the night for a total of 5. The Seawolves were able to barely edge ahead as Sather recorded a 4-point kill streak to end the set and match at 25-22.

The Toros were led on the night by Rushton with 8 kills. Wolfgramm led in both digs and assists with a respective 12 and 6. Aside from her 5 kills Davison grabbed 3 blocks to lead the nights defense.

Now 1-20 (0-13 CCAA), the Toros will host the Lumberjacks of Humboldt State tomorrow at 7 pm in the Torodome.
