Toros Comeback Too Late as Broncos Outrun Them 3-0

Ashley Clark posted 6 kills on the night in a 3-0 loss to Cal Poly Pomona

Carson, CA --- Though losing in a quick three sets 3-0 to the visiting Broncos of No. 19 Cal Poly Pomona, the Toros posted an impressive comeback in set three that was not enough as they fell 25-15, 25-8, 27-25. Ashley Clark posted six kills, four of them in the third set to lead the Toros in the offense.

Quickly falling behind in the first set, the Toros were able to gain some ground as a five point streak off a Clark kills and Madison Horsley service ace put them within reach at 15-11. However, CPP's Allie Newman and Elizabeth Diaz responded quickly to shutdown the Toros offense at a final score of 25-15.

Trying to find a groove that was not to be had in set two put the Toros in a tough spot as they quickly fell behind to 24-7. Stacy Wilder gave the Toros their final kill of the set, and her only one of the night, to end it at 25-8.

Refusing to go out quietly in the night, the Toros grabbed an early lead in set three and held on tight. A four-point run gave the Toros their biggest push of the set as Marissa Anderson and Clark gave CSUDH its last lead at 13-11. The Broncos responded in full force as Jenna Young landed a kill to turn the game around. Clark and her team volleyed back to keep the game close as it was soon tied at 25-25. The set ended as two quick kills from CPP's Vanessa Williams and Desirae Kahey ended it at 27-25.

The Toros were led in the night offensively by Clark who posted 6 kills. Rebekah Wolfgramm provided the game's assistance with 11 sets while Melissa Velasco defended with 13 digs.

The Toros (now 1-17, 0-10 CCAA) will go on to host Cal State L.A. on Wednesday, October 15. First serve is set at 7:00pm
