No. 2 Cal State San Bernardino Too Good in Sweep of Toros

Madison Horsley goes for the dig while Ashley Clark gets ready to attack

Carson, CA ---Though taking a loss in three sets, the Toros fought with much engery against the No. 2 team in NCAA DII volleyball - the Coyotes of Cal State San Bernardino - to fall 25-17, 26-24, 25-20. The Toros were led by Marissa Anderson, who posted 7 kills on the night.

Never taking a lead in set one, the Toros did manage to hold two three-point streaks off the hands of Rebekah Wolfgramm, who posted three service aces on the night, and numerous Coyote attack errors. After their second push the Toros trailed only 18-13 but a kill from CSUSB's Samantha Middleborn ended the set at 25-17.

Coming off the bench in set two with much more energy the Toros took a quick lead that lasted nearly the entire set. The Toros held their biggest lead at 20-15 when Coyote Alicia Karver committed a service error. A kill from Ashley Clark brought CSUDH to a score of 23-20 but the tide turned as they themselves committed a service error. CSUSB was able to barely etch out a win at 26-24 off a Jessica Granados ace.

Again in set three the Toros held a lead as a five-point streak brough them to 9-3. CSUSB played catch-up and turned the tide at 17-16 with a Sara Hoffman kill. The Toros then forced the Coyotes to commit three attack errors and bring the score to 20-19 in CSUSB's favor. The efforts were not enough however as the Coyotes would go on to win the set at 25-20.

The Toros were led in scoring by Anderson with 7 kills. Wolfrgramm assisted with 12 sets, while Cassidy Mangum saw more playing time to bring in 9 herself. Melissa Velasco led in the defense with 10 digs while Kayla Huckabee snagged 2 blocks.

The Toros (now 1-16, 0-9 CCAA) will host No. 19 Cal Poly Pomona tomorrow in the Torodome. First serve is set at 7pm.
