Toros Roll Past Golden Eagles as CSUDH Women's Basketball Wins 60-40

Carson, CA – With the all-time series deadlocked at 30 wins apiece, the Toros guard duo of Brigayle Iglehart and Jessica Liang both scored in double figures and the stingy CSUDH defense held Cal State L.A. to just 18 first-half points and a 15.4% field goal percentage in the second half to run away with a 60-40 win, ending the Toros' two-game conference slide.  With the victory CSUDH improves to 8-4, 2-3 CCAA and CSULA falls to 4-7, 1-4 CCAA.

The Golden Eagles flew out to a quick six-point lead at 10-4 early on, but the Toros found their offensive rhythm to take their first lead at 11-10 with 13:56 in the first half on a layup by Whitney Gantt from a dish by Iglehart.

After a tie at 13-13 with 12:24 on the clock, the Toros locked in and went on a 24-5 run to close out the half and head into intermission up 37-18.

CSUDH dominated much of the stat line in the first half, holding a 12 to4 points in the paint advantage and a 22 to 8 advantage on points off turnovers.

Iglehart struck first after the break to push the Toro lead up to 21, which eventually reached a high of 30 on a triple by Kayla Montalvo off the bench with 5:27 left in the game.

The Golden Eagles would not lay down over the remaining five plus minutes, ending the game on a 10-3 run to cut the deficit down to 20 on a trey by Amanda Scott at the buzzer.

In addition to Iglehart's game-high15 points, the reigning CCAA Newcomer of the Year added six rebounds, dished out four assists and picked up three steals.  Liang chipped in 10 points while Ennisha Kyles continued her strong play on the boards with a game-high seven rebounds.

CSUDH is next in action on Friday, January 11, when they host the defending CCAA champions UC San Diego, with first tip scheduled for 5:30 pm in the Torodome.
