Toros Extend Unbeaten Streak to Five With 3-0 Win Over Cal State L.A.

Three first half scores enough as Matosian nets two goals and Vasquez earns three assists

Box Score
Carson, CA -- Cal State Dominguez Hills juniors Kelly Matosian and Yvonne Vasquez ignited a Toro offense that scored early and often, resulting in a convincing 3-0 win over visiting Cal State L.A. on a wet Friday night in Toro Stadium.

The duo got the Toros scoring started early as Vasquez sent a cross to a streaking Matosian, who collected and beat CSULA keeper Reyna Coca top shelf for a quick 1-0 lead at 6:29.  Vasquez then assisted on CSUDH's second score at the 12:31 mark, sending a cross to Cassie McKay, who headed it past Coca for a 2-0 cushion.

Vasquez completed her trifecta in the 30th minute, again hooking up with Matosian on a cross that beat Coca for Matosian's second goal and the game's final score.

The Toros dominated play in the shutout win, despite tallying just five more shots than the Golden Eagles, which fell to 5-3, 2-3 CCAA, and being out-cornered by a 3-2 margin.

Two days after shutting down 2nd-ranked UC San Diego, the CSUDH defense and keeper Alyssa Congdon kept its third-consecutive opponent from scoring as the true freshman tallied six saves in the win.

CSUDH, now 6-1-3, 3-1-2 CCAA, continues its homestand on Monday with a non-conference match-up against Cal State San Marcos for a 7:00 pm showdown, before Western Washington makes a trip to souther California on Tuesday, October 2, to conclude the Toros' six-game run in Carson.
