Hirokawa Leads Toros to Convincing 3-0 Win Over San Francisco State

Torrance native celebrates birthday with game-winning goal and two assists

Box Score
Carson, CA -- Senior Corrie Hirokawa celebrated her 21st birthday in fine fashion by tallying the game-winning goal and two assists in CSUDH's dominating 3-0 win over visiting San Francisco State Friday night in Toro Stadium.

Hirokawa got the Toros started early, earning a PK opportunity after the Gators were called for a hand ball inside the box.  After SFSU goalie Sarah Balderas blocked Hirokawa's initial attempt, Hirokawa collected the rebound and tapped it far side for a 1-0 lead at the 9:40 mark.

Just 10 minutes later, Hirokawa took a feed from Fawna Waldo and sent it to a streaking Yvonne Vasquez, whose blast from 18 found its way over Balderas' outstretched arms for a 2-0 lead entering the half.

CSUDH had a chance for another score just two minutes into the second half, but an Ashley Stewart attempt on a breakaway was punched away by Balderas, keeping SFSU within striking distance.

The Gators, who were outshot 23-6, had their best opportunity in the 68th minute as CSUDH goalie Alyssa Congdon was caught out of her box after a deflection, but SFSU's cross through the box went untouched, nullifying the SFSU threat.

The Toros made it 3-0 in the 79th minute as Hirokawa notched her fourth point of the game, feeding Stewart who beat Balderas far side for the game's final score.

SFSU's Balderas notched 11 saves on the night for the Gators, who fell to 2-3-1, 1-1-1 CCAA, while Congdon made five saves in the shutout.

CSUDH, now 4-1-2, 1-1-1 CCAA, continues CCAA hosting duties Sunday as Cal State Monterey Bay visits Toro Stadium, with first kick scheduled for 11:30 am.
