Phoenix, AZ -- Junior Kelly Matosian made her first road game in a Toros uniform a memorable one, notching two goals in leading CSUDH to a dominating 4-0 win over host Grand Canyon University.
After a scorless first half, Matosian got the Toros on the board in the 52nd minute, taking a feed from Krista Rojas and beating the GCU keeper for what would prove to be the game-winner.
The Lakewood native added her second score 20 minutes later to put the Toros up 3-0, burying an empty netter after beating the charging Antelope keeper to the spot and scoring the uncontested goal.
The only drama that remained was whether the stingy Toro defense would notch its second shutout in three contests, and the CSUDH defense and keeper Alyssa Congdon did just that, holding GCU to just one shot in the second half.
In fact, the Toros outshot the hosts by a whopping 23-3 margin, including a dominating 14-1 advantage after intermission which included single goals by Kristen Boskovich and Monique Castro. Not surprisingly, CSUDH tallied 8 corners to GCU's 3, while GCU's keeper tallied 9 saves to Congdon's 3.
CSUDH, which improved to 2-0-1 with the win, returns home on Tuesday, September 4, to host Biola with first kick slated for 7:00 pm in Toro Stadium.
