TURLOCK—The Cal State Stanislaus baseball team earned a 14-13 come-from-behind win against visiting Cal State Dominguez Hills to complete the four-game CCAA series sweep on Sunday afternoon.
The slugfest lasted 4½ hours and included 30 combined hits and nine pitchers. The Warriors improve to 13-10 overall and 8-8 in the CCAA earning their eight consecutive win. The Toros drop to 8-17-1 overall and 4-12 in the CCAA.
Down 13-11 heading into their last at-bat, the Warriors cut the lead to 13-12 when A.J. Valentine led off the frame with a double and then scored on Kyle Bonvechio's single. Then, with one out and the bases loaded, Tom Long walked to drive in the tying run and then Adam Kubo delivered the game-winning hit to give the Warriors the win.
Valentine and Long each finished the game with four hits with Valentine going 4-for-6 with three runs and two RBI. Long went a perfect 4-for-4 with two walks, a run and three RBI. Mateo Marquez and Scott Moore collected three hits apiece for the Toros.
The see-saw game had eight lead changes with the Warriors posting four three-run innings.
After the Warriors knotted the game up 11-11 with three runs in the bottom of the eighth, the Toros rallied back again taking the 13-11 lead on a two-run homer by Marquez to set up for the late heroics for the Warriors.
Eric Federico (1-1) was given the win tossing the final 1 2/3 innings.
Starter Josh Cross went four innings before being pulled.
James Dodson (1-2) took the loss for the Toros. He came in to pitch with one out in the ninth and surrendered two of the three runs in the inning.
