Carson, CA — Senior guard Brigayle Iglehart turned in her sixth-straight double-figure scoring performance with 15 points to help the Toros rebound from yesterday's loss and take down host Concordia University, 60-47, on day two of the Concordia Holiday Classic. With the win CSUDH improves to 5-2 on the season while CUI falls to 6-5.
With sloppy play leading to eight turnovers over the first three and a half minutes of play, the teams were only able to score three points apiece.
The Eagles found a little wiggle room with a 10-5 lead after Kayanna Nichols knocked down a pair of free throws, but the Toros responded by cutting the deficit to one at 10-9 with 10:53 left in the half.
The CUI lead continued to yo-yo up and down over the next six minutes of play until a bucket in the paint by Ennisha Kyles with just three minutes left put CSUDH up one at 24-23, eventually helping the Toros head into intermission with a slim 28-25 advantage.
Savanna Anderson drained a trey 14 seconds in to tie the game at 28-28, kicking things off in the second half.
After three more ties at 32-32, 34-34 and 36-36, the Toros found an offensive rhythm and used a combination of interior and fast break points to go on a 15-3 run and build a 51-39 advantage with 7:43 left in the game.
The Eagles were not done, however, and over the next three minutes sliced the Toro lead in half to find themselves down only six at 51-45 with just under five minutes remaining.
Coach Girard quickly called a time out to end the CUI run and the Toros came out focused, holding the Eagles to only two points the rest of the way.
Iglehart turned in another balanced performance with 15 points, eight rebounds, six assists and six steals to lead the CSUDH offense while Alana Bailey chipped in 12 points and seven boards. For the second night in a row Kayla Montalvo provided a spark off the bench with seven points while Jessica Liang added nine in the win.
CSUDH continues its non-conference schedule on Saturday, December 15 with a trip to Biola, before returning home on Friday, December 28, to take on Ferris State in the Toros' final game of the 2007 calendar year, with first tip scheduled for 5:30 pm in the Torodome.
