Toros Take Advantage of Biola Turnovers as CSUDH Wins, 59-40

La Mirada, CA — The Toro defense caused 33 turnovers and did not allow any Eagle to score in double figures while senior Brigayle Iglehart recorded her seventh-straight double-figure scoring performance with a game-high 20 points to lead CSUDH to a 59-40 win over host Biola University.  With the victory the Toros improve to 6-2, and the Eagles fall to 4-6.

Turnovers were the story early and often for Biola, as the Eagles committed seven turnovers in the first seven minutes of play to help the Toros build a 13-5 lead on a jumper by Iglehart.

Biola battled through all of the turnovers and cut the Toro lead to just two at 17-15 on a three-point shot by Jenna French, but Jessica Liang answered right back to start an 11-0 run over the next four minutes, which was capped by a layup from Diana Leasau to push the Toro lead to 13 at 28-15.

The Eagle defense held the Toros scoreless for the remaining three-plus minutes in the half while its offense scored six-straight points to cut the Toro lead to 28-21 heading into the break.

After intermission the Toros turned up the defensive intensity and forced the Biola field goal percentage to drop from 43.8% in the first half to 26.9% in the second, and held the Eagles to only 19 second-half points as CSUDH cruised to the victory.

Despite the 19-point win the Toros struggled from the charity stripe, only knocking down 2 of 13 attempts while the Eagles hit 8 of 16.

In addition to Iglehart's 20 points, Liang added 10 points while Alana Bailey and Ennisha Kyles each chipped in eight points.

CSUDH continues its non-conference schedule on Friday, December 28, when they host Ferris State at 5:30 pm in the Torodome.
