No. 25 Toros Take Important 2-0 Road Win at Sonoma State

CSUDH posts sixth shutout in last seven contests in pushing unbeaten streak to eight games

Box Score
Rohnert Park, CA -- Junior Jackie Chavez made her first goal of the year count by tapping in the game-winner at the 33:16 mark to lead the 25th-ranked Toros to an important 2-0 road win at Sonoma State Friday afternoon.

CSUDH's offense was in full attack mode after first kick, tallying a 10-5 shot advantage in the first 45 minutes of play.  The game remained scoreless until the 33rd minute when Fawna Waldo and Kristen Boskovich teamed to set up Chavez, who tapped it by SSU keeper Courtney Grixti for the game's first score.

Keeping the host Seawolves, now 6-5-1, 2-5-1 CCAA, off the scoreboard the remainder of the half, the Toro defense continued its stellar play after the break, limiting SSU to just three shots to give them eight for the game.

Up 1-0, CSUDH added an insurance goal at the 73:31 mark as Boskovich took a Corrie Hirokawa-Cassie McKay feed and beat Grixti for a 2-0 lead.

Toro keeper Alyssa Congdon again was spectacular in goal for CSUDH, posting her fifth shutout of the year, while Grixti was kept busy by a hungry Toro offense, making five saves in the loss.

CSUDH, which improves to 9-1-3, 4-1-2 CCAA and hasn't lost in its past eight games, completes this weekend's CCAA road trip with a Sunday contest at Humboldt State, with first kick scheduled for 11:30 am.
