Turlock, CA - The Warriors volleyball team got the much-needed win as they defeated Cal State Dominguez Hills in four, 30-14, 33-35, 30-19, 30-25, Saturday night in the Warrior Arena. With the win CSUS improved to 6-20, 2-13 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association, and CSUDH is now 2-24 and 1-14 in league play.
Debbie Vander Schaaf continues to be the team leader with 16 kills tonight with a strong hitting percentage of .412 (16-for-34 with two errors). Nicole Musso contributed with 12 kills and four blocks. Megan Loghry led the team with six total blocks to go with her seven kills.
Sophia Lopes led the Toros with her 13th double-double of the season with 16 kills and 16 digs. Lefty freshman Marissa Anderson added 11 kills while libero Jenise Espindola picked up 14 digs in the effort.
Musso was 12 of 26 with five errors for .269. The Warriors had a .248 hitting percentage as a team.
Libero Megan Britton recorded 15 digs to set a new CSUS single-season record in digs. The freshman now has 434 for the season with four matches remaining. The old record was held by Sarah Barnett who had 424 in 2002.
Also chipped in for the Warriors were Liz Cameron with eight kills and Jen Gee had nine digs. Setter Colleen Sullivan had 29 assists.
The Toros road trip continues next weekend, taking on No. 2 Cal State San Bernardino on Friday and Cal Poly Pomona on Saturday.
