LOS ANGELES – Shayna Stanley led the Cal State L.A. women's basketball team with 14 points as the Golden Eagles fell to cross-town rival Cal State Dominguez Hills on Saturday night in the Eagles Nest, 66-50.
The win improves the women's record to 7-4, 4-3 CCAA, and with the loss, the Golden Eagles fall to 3-9 overall, 1-6 in the CCAA.
The Golden Eagles fell behind early as the Toros started the contest with a nine-point run. Cal State L.A. was never able to recover and went into halftime down, 42-19.
At one point in the second half, the Golden Eagles found themselves facing a 30-point deficit. With 12:44 left to play, Cal State L.A. began to chip away at their foe's seemingly insurmountable lead. With 30 seconds to play, the Golden Eagles had cut the Toros' lead in half. Time ran out before Cal State L.A. had the chance to get back in the game.
Up next for the Toros are two area teams, Cal Poly Pomona and Cal State San Bernardino, visiting Carson for a weekend homestand. The CPP Broncos arrive Friday, with the women's game beginning at the usual 5:30 p.m. Saturday, the CSUSB Coyotes come calling, with the women's game tipping off at the same time.
