Box Score
Los Angeles, CA -- Cal State Dominguez Hills received single goals by Fawna Waldo (Lakewood, CA/Mayfair HS) and Rachele McDonald (Buena, CA/Ventura College) in a span of 17 minutes to hand host Cal State L.A. its first CCAA Conference loss of the season in a 2-0 blanking of the Golden Eagles Thursday night at Jesse Owens Stadium.
With the win, CSUDH's second in a row, the Toros improve to 4-6, 3-3 CCAA, while CSULA falls to 6-2-1, 4-1-1 CCAA.
After the hosts dominated the first half with an 8-2 advantage in shots, CSUDH took advantage of one of its two opportunities deep into the opening frame as junior Corrie Hirokawa (Torrance, CA/North Torrance HS) served a corner kick to a perfectly positioned Waldo, who blasted her goal past CSULA keeper Reyna Coca for a 1-0 lead at the 43:33 mark.
That lead doubled 15 minutes into the second half as senior McDonald sent a shot towards the goal that Kristen Boskovich (Rancho Palos Verdes, CA/Peninsula HS) dummied to distract Coca, allowing McDonald's shot to scoot through at 60:57 for an insurance goal and giving the Toros a 2-0 cushion.
Junior goalie Ashley De Alejandro (Los Alamitos, CA/LBCC), along with a revitalized defense, made that lead stand up as CSUDH limited the CSULA offense to just two shots after halftime, with neither Golden Eagle effort finding the back of the net. De Alejandro, who enjoyed her first shutout win as a Toro, notched 3 saves in goal while Coca stopped 5 of 7 chances between the pipes.
The Toros look to make it three in a row on Sunday as they travel to Cal State Bakersfield to take on the 'Runners with first kick scheduled for 12 noon.
